May 13, 2021First off, this is a very pretty book. It has a very good introductory section and some indexes in the back, all of which help to explain the broad historical and philosophical contexts of his writing. I knew almost nothing about stoicism before reading this book and was surprised at the many parallels between it and zen buddhism, although there are also significant differences, too. Overall, it is a fascinating glimpse into the mind of an important historical figure from ancient times. It is generally agreed that he never intended these writings for publication, which is wonderful in that the content is very much like a diary or daily journal, but the structure is not at all narrative or composed in any way to be intentionally persuasive or instructive.

February 8, 2023Received item as advertised. Well packed enough with minor crushing of book corners. Not ideal but acceptable. I have received books in perfect condition and these books are usually in shrinkwrap and bubble pack as well as.box. Nevertheless, it's just a book that is going to sustain reading wear but the sellet can probably do better with packing. Quick shipping. TQVM.

May 23, 2024I'm still freaked by how hard some passages hit. Classical thought is not an intellectual pursuit, its a look back at people finding a way to live that is no different to what we do today.
