Describes my parent "to a T"
Jeanette· Review provided by Target · September 12, 2023
Wow wow wow, the accuracy in describing my whole childhood is astonishing! My parent strongly embodies all 5 traits so this book was so valuable in validating my emotional experiences with them. The roadmap the author provides in navigating the challenges that come with having an emotionally immature parent is extremely helpful. The tools she gives in healing/dealing with EIPs are things I have had to do with my parent - create optimal distance and boundaries and let go of the "healing fantasy." THANK YOU to the author, Lindsay Gibson for all your impactful work! Hopefully, we can all become better parents to our kids so they'll never have to buy this book!
Excellent, informative, transformative

This book is excellent. It is easy to read, not full of jargon and I really enjoyed the real-life examples. I purchased this to learn more about myself and my upbringing, as someone who has accessed therapy for the last decade in relation to the impact of having emotionally immature parents. I did not expect to learn so much more from this book, but did. It has provided me with more insight into how they have impacted so many aspects of my personality, my emotions, and my relationships with others. It also provided me with a lot of insight into why emotionally immature parents are the way they are, which was really wonderful to consider. It has some great tips and examples of what you can do to move forward with your life. I have recommended this book to all of my friends who had similar upbringings to me, and I am not much of a reader but managed to read this book within a few weeks. Would highly recommend.
Highly recommend, very engaging and easy to read

I just finished this book. I now have a list of things to talk about with my therapist, a cheat sheet for dealing with my parents, and hope. The ideas were presented so well that I immediately started seeing how people act differently. Also, I wasn't expecting a plot twist at the end, but it was a great present.
useful

Read the book myself although I thankfully do not have the issues discussed. Gave it to a family member to help him deal with his arent. Also came across a friend who borrowed the book. Nice exercises and simple explanations. May tilt a bit too much toward the self-love movement but if used in a balanced manner will prove to be useful.
