[Rewarded Review] One of the best printers I've ever owned

December 15, 2024This printer is perfect for me.
My previous printer attempted to force me to use THEIR ink replacement cartridges, so, that was always a battle.
This printer's setup was pretty easy and the printer itself has all the options I need, plus it has a much smaller footprint.
I appreciate that the paper output tray does not use a large amount of my desk space.
The flatbed and paper cartridge feed input for the scanner works exactly as it should.
It's somewhat quiet and prints fast enough for me, as a home user.
The software is more comprehensive than other brands.
It allows you to change, on the fly, the type of file you want for your output (image, PDF, etc.) and also allows you to set which software is the default to open your file.
My previous printer (hotel papa) constantly tried to disallow the usage of default Windows settings and force you to use their rudimentary software.
The only con for me is that it does not have a touchscreen. Not a big deal but, when you are setting it up for the first time, it takes a few minutes to figure out which button to push and where it is.
The print quality itself has very sharp colors and dries quickly (no smearing on regular paper).
The direct print from email option is pretty cool. Hint: be sure to safeguard your (customizable) email-to-print address as, someone might accidentally send their regular email to your printer (using up paper and ink).
I have never been able to figure out how to fax from home but, this printer's fax option looks pretty straightforward.
All in all, this is a great home-use printer. And, because of the price of ink (compared to others) makes the purchase of this Brother MFC-J1010DW a no-brainer.

May 25, 2024I had used my last printer (not a brother) for many years, and was sad when the manufacturer stopped supporting it. I looked around for a replacement with similar features and settled on a Brother MFC-J1010DW. I didn't know what to expect, but I assumed it would be OK.
I am very pleased to report that my new Brother printer is great and that it is even better than my old printer, which I loved. It is noticeably faster, and the print quality is better...very crisp and clear, and the colors are great.
Even though I am giving this printer a "5 star" rating, I do have two complaints:
First, if I don't use the printer for a while, it goes to sleep and it is hard to wake up. I have gone through all of the setup options but haven't found the key yet. There's got to be a way to fix that. Often I have to turn it off and back on again, and wait for it to go through its entire reboot routine. Then I have to delete the prior print job and reprint. It's frustrating.
Secondly, Brother makes a big deal about their "refresh" ink subscription program, which I wanted to participate in, but since I live in Hawaii, I am excluded. Still, they keep sending me (junk) emails about it. The fact that they advertised this thing and then won't let me join really irks me. It's bad PR, and I won't easily forget it.
All things considered, this is a very nice printer.
[Rewarded Review] So far very happy.

October 28, 2024I purchased the Brothers MFC-J1010DW printer about two weeks ago and so far very satisfied. I had a little trouble with the set up , some of it was my problem and some was a little confusing.
After the initial set up, things were quite easy to use and the print quality is very good. The best thing is their refresh program for the ink. I signed up right away, even though I don’t do a lot of printing. In the past, I would generally replace my ink cartridges on my old canon about every eight or nine months.
With the refresh subscription, I don’t have to worry about printing in color or not because they have already sent me a new set of cartridges, even though I barely started to use it. I am on their occasional use plan for only $1.99 a month. You can change anytime if you think you need more than the 25 copies that it allows. at my current usage level that will cost me about $20 to change to new cartridges. Couldn’t be happier.
[Rewarded Review] Beware...

August 8, 2024Good printer but with a major catch. I like the design and functionality of this printer. Very quick and easy to use. The prints looks great. However, the ink cartridge situation is disappointing and frustrating. If the printer determines that any of your cartridges are low on toner, the whole printer is disabled. It will not even let you print monochrome if the yellow toner is "low." Additionally, the printer seems to determine ink level by number of print cycles rather than actual ink left in the cartridge, so you can have a half full cartridge that gets irreversibly deemed "empty" by the printer; all printing is thenceforth disabled until the expensive cartridge is replaced. It's a terrible waste of ink and money. Just 2 sets of color toner cost as much as the printer itself, so the waste adds up quickly.
