Great value for the home or home office

I am very pleased with my new MFC-J1010DW all-in-one printer that I bought in early December. I like the new control panel up front instead of on top like most printers. If you print a photo, be prepared to wait a while, but the quality of the printout is amazing. I also noticed that enabling the quiet mode slowed down the printer considerably. It is a little nosier than my previous Brother printer. The 2-sided printing is also a slower process since it has to pull each page back in and flip it to do the second side. If I had many pages, I would probably use the old odd/even page method to speed things along. As for the ink cartridges sometimes being hard to find, I enrolled in the Ink subscription and received a replacement set in about a week. The printer will tell me when to put in a new cartridge. For home use, it is the perfect printer with very good quality output at a reasonable speed. Probably it is not suitable for someone printing a lot of material at once especially 2-sided printing. I love being able to scan and copy documents at home. I used to have to search for a place to make copies that I needed. I don't use the fax function, but it is there if I decide I need it. Setup for my Windows 10 computer was very easy. But setup for my phone took longer as it involved installing apps and was a bit harder to go through. I did manage to get it working without having to call Support.
MFC-J1010DW - Fast printing, Great print quality

I had used my last printer (not a brother) for many years, and was sad when the manufacturer stopped supporting it. I looked around for a replacement with similar features and settled on a Brother MFC-J1010DW. I didn't know what to expect, but I assumed it would be OK.

I am very pleased to report that my new Brother printer is great and that it is even better than my old printer, which I loved. It is noticeably faster, and the print quality is better...very crisp and clear, and the colors are great.

Even though I am giving this printer a "5 star" rating, I do have two complaints:

First, if I don't use the printer for a while, it goes to sleep and it is hard to wake up. I have gone through all of the setup options but haven't found the key yet. There's got to be a way to fix that. Often I have to turn it off and back on again, and wait for it to go through its entire reboot routine. Then I have to delete the prior print job and reprint. It's frustrating.

Secondly, Brother makes a big deal about their "refresh" ink subscription program, which I wanted to participate in, but since I live in Hawaii, I am excluded. Still, they keep sending me (junk) emails about it. The fact that they advertised this thing and then won't let me join really irks me. It's bad PR, and I won't easily forget it.

All things considered, this is a very nice printer.
[Rewarded Review] Seems great so far

Bought this printer to replace an aging Canon MP990 that was dying. It's physically smaller than the Canon, which is good; it also adds FAX capability, which I may never use but if I need it, will be nice.

Setup went fine, modulo a few dialog boxes that didn't display properly (text cut off). Connecting to my Wi-Fi was easy. I've seen reviews that complained that the setup asked for a device password and they had no idea where to find that; either they missed the directions in the dialog saying that the password is on a sticker on the back of the printer, or the installation has been updated. In any case, it's not an issue.

I have not used up/changed any ink cartridges yet, so can't speak to longevity.

The only tiny negatives:

- the output paper holder is flimsy and I worry that it will break

- it is noticeably noisier than the Canon (though also faster: when I print a single page, I keep thinking it must have jammed because it goes quiet so fast)
[Rewarded Review] So far very happy.

I purchased the Brothers MFC-J1010DW printer about two weeks ago and so far very satisfied. I had a little trouble with the set up , some of it was my problem and some was a little confusing.
After the initial set up, things were quite easy to use and the print quality is very good. The best thing is their refresh program for the ink. I signed up right away, even though I don’t do a lot of printing. In the past, I would generally replace my ink cartridges on my old canon about every eight or nine months.
With the refresh subscription, I don’t have to worry about printing in color or not because they have already sent me a new set of cartridges, even though I barely started to use it. I am on their occasional use plan for only $1.99 a month. You can change anytime if you think you need more than the 25 copies that it allows. at my current usage level that will cost me about $20 to change to new cartridges. Couldn’t be happier.
