Great mostly, but one big flaw for me

I chose this wide format printer over HP and the Epson, after much research online. Reasons....prints faster, 50 sheets in the feeder tray, 11x17 in the rear tray (up to 100 sheets), & 11x17 paper in either of the cassettes. Also, according to websites, it has a lower cost per copy on ink. The construction seems very solid, & the lid is fairly quiet when lifting. Printing, scanning, & copying are great and fast. I have not tested the fax capability, because I don't use that. The printer connected to Wi-Fi fairly easily & is keeping the connection. Also, there's a print and scan function that can be loaded onto the computer. It works well, but is a little complicated to use. In the print function, within programs on the computer, you can create your own printer setting pre-sets, which they call Profiles. Those would be great, EXCEPT THEY DON'T HOLD THE PAGE ORIENTATION YOU INCLUDE WHEN MAKING THE PRESET!! This is a HUGE issue for my use of this printer in my business.
Terrible terrible terrible connection issues!

Don’t bother buying this nonsense unless you want to spend your life trying to connect it to the internet and phone! It’s so slow! And I’ve spent more of my life trying connect this thing to a perfect internet connection than anything else in life! The printing is great providing you can get the thing to print and do the job it’s supposed to be for! Absolutely ridiculous! Whenever the stupid thing does a stupid update it loses connection! Then it takes a million and one years to connect to the Internet! I was compelled to write this review to show how fed up I am with this pile of junk! I had a hewlett packard printer before this monstrosity and I didn’t have any issues connecting and it was fast! And ancient! Still did the job! Never going to buy a brother printer again! Shockingly bad! And far far far too expensive for what it is! The software on this junk is terrible! Sort it out brother!
Adequate once up and running

I purchased this printer for our small office, following having had the previous model/equivalent to this model. Set up left a lot to be desired and was a lot more difficult than i have experienced previously with brother MFC printers, taking multiple uninstall/re-installs of the drivers for it to connect properly to each computer that need to use it (3 in total), which should have been straight forward with the driver/software package. To this day I still don't know what the issue was, followed the instructions to the T each time. Reached out to brother support at one part of it, who were not so helpful and just referred me to a Youtube video which wasn't relevant to the issue I was experiencing, resulting in me deciding to figure it all out on my own taking multiple hours over multiple days. Print quality is sufficient but small writing can be blurry (although I would say good for the quality/price of the machine), Scanning has a slight lag/connection time but at least is now working, Duplex works well and I love the two trays which I use one for A3 and the other for A4, A3 Scanning is a definite bonus and the reason I chose this model. Overall now that it is up and running it is adequate for our small office needs with a satisfactory price to match.
Not impressed with MFC-J6940DW

This our 4th Brother printer and this model is not of the same quality or robustness. The things which have changed are: 1. Sensitive to head clogging we need to clean heads on a regular basis particularly after colour prints; 2. When inks are low the printer just stops printing without telling us and we need to check to work out that it is because one of the inks is low; 3. Low ink stops printing even though the print measure is telling us we have enough to do more prints so we are changing the ink cartridges more often and going through lots more ink; 3. the printer is asking for more updates than any of our previous Brother printers which have all been MFC-JXXX DW printers.

We have had such great Brother printers which have always been reliable and supported us well in our small but busy office. We expected to have the same quality of machine this time but it is not living up to the previous models.
