My new favorite HOKA running shoe!
VaploRunner2681· Review provided by roadrunnersports.com · May 15, 2024
My first pair of HOKA running shoes were a pair of Gaviota 4s. I loved them so much that I bought two additional pairs. So, when the Gaviota 5s came along, I thought they would be great as well. However, I was definitely wrong with that thought, and found it to be a horrible shoe! After approximately 260 miles in that shoe, I had to retire them and switched to a previous brand that I have used over the years. When the Arahi 7s came along, and I saw that they maintained the "J-Frame", I thought I would give them a chance. While I only have about 50 miles in them so far, they have restored my faith in HOKA running shoes. Hopefully, there will be some corrections made to the Gaviota 6s! 🤞
Big downgrade from Arahi 6

Had the Arahi 6, and they were one of my favorite pairs of shoes ever. Wore them for probably longer than I should have, and bought these as a replacement. They share the same J frame soles, but the uppers are all new. And the all new uppers are trash. They really cheaped out, zero padding in the uppers now and several spots where the stitching rubs your foot. I've had these about 3 weeks and they are already just about unbearable to walk in as they irritate the outsides of my feet badly around the area where the tongue elastic is. I tossed the box already so waste of $140.
Engineering award for these guys

After 4 weeks, 80 miles, of hilly street jogging in 20 runs: Solid stable platform, feel great uphill on streets, super nice for laps on the local high school all-weather track. Have to play around with laces a bit. 12-wide were factory laced for an average foot, just had to add some slack (all the way down) to relieve snug feel in toe box. When tying I cinch the ankle collar, with a snap-tug, to pull in the heel counter tight (w/o cutting off circulation). Zero squish foam, a truthful "stability" choice for training. Many thanks to Hoka designers.
Just What Needed

I use the HOKA Arahi-7 for walking. I wore a prior model for three years and liked it but was influenced to my dismay by advertising and a few other reviews about the Graviota. A big mistake, after wearing them for 4 months and experiencing sore hips, sore knees, and sore feet I went back to the Arahi 7. The platform was firm but not too firm, they seemed to be more stable, and they fit me better. The only suggestion I would have is that the toe box could be a little wider. It would also be nice to see this shoe in EEE width. I will buy a second pair shortly to rotate the shoe.
