Off to the Races: Chanel Cruise 2022/23 in Monte-Carlo
Chanel presents their Cruise 2022/23 on Hotel Monte-Carlo Beach under the watchful eye of Karl Lagerfeld's summer home
Beneath overcast skies at the Hotel Monte-Carlo Beach, Chanel brightened up the day as they presented their resort collection. Creative director Virginie Viard was inspired by the location itself, her personal memories there and the intertwining histories of Chanel and Monte-Carlo. Gabrielle Chanel first visited Monaco in 1910 and in 1988 Viard’s predecessor Karl Lagerfeld purchased a summer home in the principality. Viard has many happy memories with Lagerfeld at his home, which was visible to the show’s guests from the beach. These memories infused a sense of nostalgia into the presentation.
On the other hand, iconic Monte-Carlo institutions such as the Casino and the Grand Prix, added a playful twist to the show. Chanel presented both slot machine mini-bags and driver helmet handbags as well as mechanic jumpsuits. Also included in the collection are staples such as flowing maxi dresses, shirt dresses, and of course the brand’s signature tweed. If Monte-Carlo inspires you to get out on the track, there are real helmets too, in addition to tennis rackets (and matching micro racket bags), biker jackets, wrestling shorts and beach coverups. See some of the show’s highlights below.
