United States Vice-President Kamala Harris and Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) bloc Dr Keith Rowley concluded their first, telephone conference meeting on Thursday (June 3), Our Today has learned.

While it is not immediately clear what topics were discussed, a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) in Trinidad and Tobago, noted that the Harris-Rowley meeting was the very latest in a series of high-level contacts with officials of the Biden Administration in recent weeks.

Just last week (May 27), Prime Minister Rowley and Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Amery Browne met virtually with US House Majority Whip, James E. Clyburn.

That meeting focused on issues related to COVID-19 vaccines, national security and other matters of mutual interest.

(12:09 pm EST) UPDATE: Deputy Press Secretary for the vice president, Sabrina Singh, in a series of tweets, confirmed that Harris, in separate calls, spoke with several world leaders including Prime Minister Rowley, informing them of the Biden Administration’s intent to begin sharing the first 25 million COVID-19 vaccines to countries globally.

Among the government heads contacted were Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President of Guatemala Alejandro Giammattei.
